It really isn't... if I could find an $1800 RFM I'd consider it. My upper range is $1k for any pin but I could swing $1800 if I knew the balance sheet would come out properly in a short time.

Thanks, that's about what I thought. Sent out a couple of feelers and got some nibbles but apparently people think their computerless P2K games are still worth $1500+.

So given how cheap and plentiful smallish IDE hard drives are, why CF over IDE and not a hard drive?

Oh, I know, but the topper isn't any use without a game to put it on.

Dammit. Stop tempting me to look around for a dead RFM. This isn't the time for me to be dropping another four figures on pinball.

Hrm... cheap RFMs as candidates?

The primary reason I've never had a P2k game is cost. They are both $2000+ unless you buy a really beaten one. I would imagine there may be some out there with dead prisms or monitors that would be cheaper... that we could then use this product to bring back to life. If I could get one of those in m...

For the time being the only DMD game I have is a Shadow... don't see that changing any time soon and definitely not by acquiring a modern Stern. :?

One thing to consider is that you guys are building a reliable replacement. Williams didn't necessarily have long term reliability a factor in their choice of hardware. The fact that they chose certain types of storage doesn't automatically mean your product should.

Ooh! A "tournament topper" LCD... making an http query to the high scores website and displaying various stats on the screen, configurable locally in an XML file.

No option for neither one. I don't have either yet - haven't come across one I can afford given that they are currently almost unrepairable should the prism card die.

Maybe we should make it a 'request'. Design the system to not wear out Flash Drives. It strikes me that most of the time running the game is a 'read' operation and the data is stored in memory. However, logging could be a concern... some programs can produce a LOT of logging. Have they made that in...

ok, WOW... The brightness and color quality of my 19" junk lcd I'm using for testing was pretty incredible off the mirrored glass. So this definately can be done and after all the smoke clears I WILL be doing it ;-) There is only one real issue. A 19" lcd isn't wide enough to extend the p...

Depending on the IO details of their implementation it could be a major issue. If they are going heavy on disk IO a thumb drive may not last long at all.

It would be worth considering adding support for a second video card that can drive an external display. Same video, but on something everyone can see. RFM is entertaining enough that it would be fun.
