Running Nucore in very hot environments
Running Nucore in very hot environments
Recently we had a customer who ran into heat issues running Nucore. About every half hour the machine would shut down due to thermal limits being exceeded. After we went through the standard troubleshooting I asked how hot it was in the room the machine was running in. The answer was 90-95 degrees Fahrenheit. This was obviously the issue. Nucore is a standard computer meant to run at ambient room temperatures (70-75 degrees safely.) Something people don't consider is the fact that the inside of the pinball machine doesn't get a lot of ventilation. To compound the issue the original CRT monitor generates a decent amount of heat itself. We've run the system without issue in ambient temperatures of 82 degrees. When you start getting close to 90 degrees the inside of the head you start pushing the standard cooling ability of the system. If you plan to use Nucore in this environment please make sure you purchase high efficiency cpu coolers and power supplies that move lots of air. If you plan on buying a Complete system please contact us before you do and we can help create a solution that will work for you.
