swep1 sound problem again.

Post by TheBaronVonBell »

Ok, this one is really confusing. I unplugged my machine and moved it. When I plugged it back in everything booted ok, Game plays but no sound. Went into the system bios and checked to make sure audio was enabled, then checked alsamixer to make sure levels were turned up. Everything checked out ok but, still no sound. Grabbed an old set of powered computer speakers and plugged them into the audio out from the Motherboard. Sound was back. Ok, must be in the old audio amp. Ordered a new nucore amp. Installed it today. No sound. Still get sound with the computer speakers, what am I missing?

Did you try a different audio cable?

Assuming that the original amp was not the problem, and that I got a new cable with my nucore amp, that would mean both cables were bad. I think this is unlikely. Also when I unplug the cable from the computer sound jack you immediately hear the pop from the speakers. So, I think the amp and speakers work ok. Could this be some kind of weird Linux problem?

It does seem like a linux problem. You are using ubuntu 8.04 LTS correct?

Update: Ran alsamixer again and the headphone output is at zero, but not muted. I can select it but cannot increase the volume.

Crazy question but you do have the power amp plugged into an AC outlet, correct? Could you post some pictures here for us to look at?

BTW, Did you make sure the connection from the speakers in the head did not come apart? I'm not talking the connection that goes into the amp board. I'm talking the white square molex connectors in the head that connect the speakers to the rest of the wiring harness. Call me n maybe we can work through it together. 313-268-0541
