SWEP1 not saving all of the menu changes

Post by maxbadazz »

So some things save:

I changed to pay to play to use my tokens, so it saves that
grand champion high score
one coin counting as two (because 50 cents is the minimum setting)
time as well as month and day of the date

what doesn't save:

all other high scores
combo champ
extra ball values
match %
the year of the date

I select reset from the menu but it seems to hang, making me turn it
off. I think this might be where it saves instead of just back
stepping back to the game. Its really annoying that this is happening

I alreayd checked all the cables, replaced the battery, etc. Any
other ideas?

Here's the exact steps I took:

power on the game from the cabinet switch
choose the game (SWEp1) with both action buttons (it will ask this even if I select in the nucore options to play SW)
version 2.0 Nucore screen appears
game boots to attract mode, no errors
open coin door
enter test button pressed
date shows Sept 26 2043 with the correct time
select Adjustments
select system adjustments
special award is still set to points (I changed this before and it stayed)
go back
select feature adjustments
change ramp combo max from 20 to 100 (this resets each time back to 20)
go back
select game pricing
free play = no is still set (changed this before and it stayed)
edit pricing card text
press start to erase current default text
enter new text (line 1 is Insert Token and line 2 is Chris is a pinball Jedi)
press start to save changes
go back
select score awards
change level 1 from 20 mil to 58 million (this resets each time)
change level 2 from 60 to 150 mil (this also resets each time)
go back
select match
change match feature from 5 to 1 (this resets each time)
go back
select high scores
change jedi credits to 0 (this was set before and stayed)
change ramp combo credits to zero (this also was set before and stayed)
change champ and high scores 1-4 credits to zero (this change remained from before)
change default high scores to 1 million for each (champ and 1-4) (this was changed before and remains ok)
go back
go back again to systems menu
select utilities
select set clock
change the year to 2011 (this resets each time to a different year each time) all other parts remain correct including month, day, and time
go back
select reset menu
select reset high scores
go back
in system menu, sometimes I select reset machine which will always hang
otherwise I press back til I return to the attract mode

I also tried a factory reset in the menu. It changed the language to French, but after backing into attract mode and going back into the menu, it was English. I then shut down and powered back on. Of course, all the changes that I changed were again reset :)

Hope this helps. As I wrote these down, I noticed a few high scores from earlier remained however yesterdays were long gone

Thanks

This concerns me the most:

choose the game (SWEp1) with both action buttons (it will ask this even if I select in the nucore options to play SW)

When you set the game in our config menu it should save it with no problems. A few questions:

1) Is the jumper next to the battery jumpered? (this enables the battery.)
2) What are the hard specs of the machine/components you used.
3) Are you using LEDs on your playfield OR do you have any bulbs that are burnt out?
4) Did you use the linux disc provided with the kit to install the OS?
5) Did you make any changes to the OS config outside of the instructions.

There's a USB wire connected above the battery. Nothing else

2) What are the hard specs of the machine/components you used.

That I will need to check on as I bought this with NuCore already installed

3) Are you using LEDs on your playfield OR do you have any bulbs that are burnt out?

Yes, mostly LED's but I don't see any bad bulbs (the menu throws a few bulb errors though)

4) Did you use the linux disc provided with the kit to install the OS?

I believe they did, however I'd need to double check

5) Did you make any changes to the OS config outside of the instructions.

Not that I am aware of (would need to check on that as well)

Thanks

J3 on the USB board need to be jumpered. If it's not nothing will save.

Do you have info posted about that (or a doc)? I don't have any wires leftover, and being new to the NuCore system, not exactly savvy in its ways :)

Also are some of the settings not using the battery (like the date and free play/pay)? Its odd that some changes take while others don't.

Thanks for the help on this...I appreciate it

Manuals: www.bigguyspinball.com/misc/manuals.zip

Somewhere in your machine (possibly inside the computer) is a small rectangular board connected to the computer via a USB cable. It has a battery on it (which may need to be changed) and has a jumper (J3) that needs to be jumpered to enable the battery. Find this board and locate J3. Since you didn't setup the system it may not have been setup properly when the original owner set it up.

HI,

It has that board mounted on the right wall. Battery was changed, but it only has a USB out of the top that goes to the CPU. I noticed another connector to the left of the battery (2 pins) and a multi-pin connection at the bottom (surrounded by black plastic).

Thanks

There are two jumpers J2 and J3 - J3 is labeled on the board. Does it have a jumper on it?

Better yet, take a close-up picture of the usb board with the battery on it and upload it here.

Looks like the jumper was only on one pin. Took it off, pushed it back on, changed the settings (the ones that revert back), played a game, then shut down (I noticed the high scores were gone this evening too other than grand champ). When I booted back up, looks like everything remained. I will start it up later tonight again to see if anything defaulted back, but it looks like that might have been the problem.

Thanks
