Can't get Linux disc to read....and tried to download 8.04

Post by michaelsmith007 »

Tried to download 8.04 386i but disc did not work at all. Also successfully loaded 11.10 to see if issue was CD Drive - it loaded fine. I have heard that Nucore only works with 8.04.

Any suggestions that might help here...it was a very late evening of downloading/burning to discs/failed attempts...

Please help me....

My hardware is:

ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS - AM3+ - 760G - Radeon 3000 - 100% Solid Capacitor

AMD Phenom II X2 560 Processor, Black Edition (HDZ560WFGMBOX)

AMD Memory Entertainment Edition 4GB Not a kit (Single) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) 240-Pin, SDRAM - AE34G1339U2

Asus 24xDVD-RW Serial ATA Internal OEM Drive DRW-24B1ST (Black)

SanDisk Ultra 120 GB Solid State Drive SDSSDH-120G-G25

Mike, I sent you an email. I will post a copy below.

Sorry you’re having issues. That version of linux has very picky code for reading drives. We have to burn the discs at the lowest possible speed in order to make them work properly. Download the iso from this link - (link removed - contact us if you need this link). Then burn the disc at the lowest possibly speed your software and drive support. We haven’t had an issue where a drive wouldn’t work but if burning a disc at the lowest speed doesn’t work I suggest trying another drive (you don’t really need the drive after install anyway.)

Still not working. I tried the link provided saved to my desktop and burnt to disc at 3X speed. When I put the disc in it does not recognize the media. However, my pc still recognizes Ubuntu 11.10 and/or 12.04

Really having some issues. Don't know what else I can do.

the message I get with disc I burned is "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key".

I know its' not the CD drive because it loads 12.04 or 11.10 off of disc

Maybe I will buy another drive tomorrow...

Although it seems strange that it reads nearly all the discs but the old versions of Unbuntu?

"reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"

Is that after it attempts to load for a while or do you get that message immediately?

It was immediately after - and then after reboot on the discs I created using your supplied link. However, the discs for the 11.10 and 12.04 Linux worked fine. I just ordered a new CD Rom drive which should arrive to me Friday. I will try that.

So, now I can read the disc (using new drive) but when the 8.04 loads from the disc it does not see my internet at all. From the start of 11.10 or 12.04 it worked fine - seeing my enternet connnected - no settings needed (plug and play).

Any ideas why 8.04 is not showing my ethernet connection? when the others did instantly?

This is most likely due to an ethernet driver issue. I googled the issue and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't (even with the latest Ubuntu.) This will probably fix the issue viewtopic.php?f=18&t=941
